Memorial Day

I was way too tired to post yesterday, but that's because I spent most of my day over at Ben and Rebecca's place hanging out with the D&D crew plus a few extras. Ben and Rebecca host a pretty nice cookout I must say, and it was nice to see everybody. I think that spending Memorial Day enjoying the company of friends is a great way to honor the memories of those who have died to protect our ability to do just that. If you have a few flags present, so much the better. (Don't forget to fly them at half-mast if you have an actual flagpole.)

What did you guys do over the weekend? Some of you are accounted for because I just saw you, and I know Pat was on a big hiking expedition because he has pictures to prove it. As for the rest of you, leave a comment and share your holiday with my loyal reader(s) and me.

On Saturday I helped my friends Dave and Eva plant an herb garden, and then I went home and played Shadow Hearts 2.

On Sunday I played Warhammer 40K with Matt and then by myself went to Cafe Zen for dinner and saw X-3 at the Senator.

Monday I watched old anime and cleaned my apartment and bought wine.

As I read that, this sounds incredibly boring, but I had a great time. :)

I heard bad things about X-3 but I want to see it anyway. I don't think I know Shadowhearts 2. Console game? My console experiences are limited to Pikmin and Mariokart. :)

Your weekend doesn't sound so boring to me.

X-3 was not as good as X-2 but I enjoyed it. It has its weak points and the characters are used unbalancedly--for an ensemble piece, they struggled to use the ensemble. But the story was interesting, acting decent, and over all, quite action packed and fun.

Shadowhearts 2 is indeed a game for the Playstation 2. It is an RPG I am finding I like a great deal; while its story isn't quite as strong as some other console RPGs I've played like Suikoden, the story is solid AND its gameplay thoroughly trumps the gameplay of any other Japanese console RPGs I've slogged through. Where as most Japanese console RPGs have the feeling of "Incredible story interspersed with constant and really, really tedious lousy excuse for combat," Shadowhearts is "Good story well-paced between plot and exploration, with just enough combat to make you feel tense and of an immersive but not-too-difficult style that makes you feel challenged rather than simply irritated."

My current game is Pikmin 2, which, if I may say, rocks. It takes away the stress of the 30 day time limit, but adds a new level of difficulty with underground caves. I recommend it.
